High availability software components
High availability in the Integrated Analytics System appliance is managed by two software components, Platform Manager, and Db2® Warehouse High Availability Management.
- Platform software
- These are the software components and elements that configure, organize, control and monitor all
of the hardware elements of the appliance.
The high availability of the platform is provided by the Platform Manager component. The Platform Manager gathers operational status and information about the hardware and software elements of the appliance through resource managers.
If the underlying resource managers report a problem, the Platform Manager runs through a set of policies to determine what action needs to be taken. In the case of Robust Hardware elements or some of the Redundant Hardware elements, the continuous operation is provided automatically and the Platform Manager only needs to alert and notify the system administrator of the occurrence.
In the case of the failure of a processing node, the Platform Manager takes a more active role in the quiescing, reconfiguration, and resumption of processing activities.
- Application software
- This is the IBM® Db2 Warehouse application for managing
data.
Within the application environment, the High Availability Management component monitors and controls the individual components of the Db2 Warehouse software. This component can restart those elements. It operates in a coordinated fashion with the Platform Manager when higher level policies are required to restart the elements of Db2 Warehouse.
The actions taken by these two high availability components are all logged, and most of them present alerts and notifications to the system administrator.
All of the operational characteristics of these elements, both software and hardware, can be viewed and monitored through the Db2 Warehouse console.
Additional information can be obtained by using the command line interface of the Platform Manager.
