Accessing service tools using SST

If your user profile has the required authorizations, you can use system service tools (SST) to access service tools.

The service tools user ID you use to access SST needs to have the "Start Service Tools" functional privilege to use SST. The IBM i user profile needs to have the following authorizations:

  • Authorization to the Start SST (STRSST) CL command.
  • Service special authority (*SERVICE).

To access service tools using SST, complete the following steps:

  1. Enter STRSST (Start SST) on an IBM i command line. The Start Service Tools (STRSST) Sign On display is shown.
  2. Enter the following information:
    • Service Tools User ID: The service tools user ID you sign on with.
    • Password: The password associated with this user ID.
    • Start of changeAdditional factor: The additional sign-on factor (TOTP) associated with this user ID. Your system administrator has specified if a TOTP factor is required for your user id.

      You can choose enter your TOTP recovery key into this parameter field. After performing the sign-on successfully with a TOTP recovery key, you will a limited amount of time of 10 minutes to change your recovery key before your user ID is locked out and prohibited from sign-on.

  3. Press Enter.
  4. The System Service Tools (SST) display is shown.
To exit from SST after performing the desired action, press F3 (Exit) until you get to the Exit System Service Tools display then press Enter to end SST.
