Image catalog mode

An image catalog can be loaded into a virtual optical device in standalone or library mode. In library mode, the virtual device can be used as a virtual optical library where all images in the image catalog are available and accessible concurrently.

The image catalog mode is specified with the LIBMODE keyword on the LODIMGCLG command. LIBMODE(*NO) is the default setting.

For image catalogs in Ready status, the current mode can be viewed using the WRKIMGCLG panel and F11=View relationships. See the WRKIMGCLG command for additional information.

Standalone mode
When the selected image catalog is loaded in standalone mode, the virtual image in mounted status is the only virtual image in the catalog that can be seen in the virtual device by using the Work with Catalog Entries WRKIMGCLGE or Work with Optical Volumes WRKOPTVOL command.
The following command is an example of loading the image catalog into the virtual optical device in standalone mode. LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(MYIMAGECATALOG) DEV(OPTVRT01) LIBMODE(*NO).
Library mode
When the selected image catalog is loaded in library mode, all virtual images in the catalog that are in mounted or available status can be seen in the virtual device by using the Work with Catalog Entries WRKIMGCLGE or Work with Optical Volumes WRKOPTVOL command.
The following command is an example of loading the image catalog into the virtual optical device in library mode. LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(MYIMAGECATALOG) DEV(OPTVRT01) LIBMODE(*YES)
Loading an image catalog into a virtual optical device in library mode requires an IBM® Lab Services offering. Contact IBM Lab Services for more information about using optical image catalogs in library mode as a media library.
