Using the operator panel for LAN console service functions is no longer necessary
Setting up a LAN console may require using the LAN console service functions. The operator panel functions for cycling through the service function options are the same as they were for IBM® i 7.5. When running IBM i 7.6, do not perform the paired 65+21 functions that were used in releases prior to IBM i 7.5, as you may change something that you did not intend, such as clearing the console configuration.
However, when running IBM i 7.6, all supported models provide an interface in the HMC and in the server ASMI that can be used to set the LAN console slot as well as other LAN console service functions. Use of these interfaces is highly recommended. They are much easier to use than the operator panel functions, so access to the physical operator panel is no longer required. See Managing the system by using the ASMI GUI (e.g. for server type 9105-41B) for more information.
