Tracing disk pool data
You can trace the data in your disk pool to collect usage statistics about the data.
You can trace the data in disk pools. When trace is started on the disk pool, the system collects statistics on the usage of the data in the disk pool. The trace function monitors the frequency that the data on the units in the specified disk pool is accessed. The data that is accessed frequently and the data that is accessed infrequently are identified.
To start tracing on a disk pool, follow these steps:
- Use the Trace ASP Balance (TRCASPBAL) command.
- Select the Trace option setting (*ON) and enter the ASP number or the ASP device, and the Time limit.
You can also stop tracing data in disk pools. When trace is stopped on the disk pool, the
collecting of the usage statistics about the data in your disk pool is stopped. The trace can be
stopped at any time and restarted later. The statistics that are collected are cumulative. For
example, if the trace is started and ended and then restarted without clearing the statistics, the
second collection of statistics is added to the first collection.
To stop tracing on a disk pool, follow these steps:
- Use the Trace ASP Balance (TRCASPBAL) command.
- Select the Trace option setting (*OFF) and enter the ASP number or the ASP device.
