Task 1: Getting ready to load the Licensed Internal Code
You can learn the things that you need to get ready to load the Licensed Internal Code.
Find these things before you begin loading Licensed Internal Code:
- Your most recent SAVSYS media. One of the following methods creates a SAVSYS media
image:
- Running the Save System (SAVSYS) command.
- Using option 21 from the Save menu.
- Using option 22 from the Save menu.
- Using option 11 from the Run Backup menu.
Attention: Do not use a media volume that you created through Dedicated Service Tools (DST) by using option 5=Save Licensed Internal Code, unless you were instructed to do so by Software Services. A media volume that is created by using this process does not contain the Licensed Internal Code Program Temporary Fix (PTF) inventory information, cryptographic services master keys, or the IBM i operating system. If you do the recovery by using this media volume, you might not be able to IPL, use your system, or load PTFs. In this case, you need to reinstall the Licensed Internal Code from either a SAVSYS media volume or from your distribution media. - The manual for your alternate IPL device. An alternate IPL device, also known as the restart device, is a tape or optical device that you can use to start your system. The manual describes how to operate your device and system reference code (SRC) codes that you might see.
- If you enabled your device as an alternate installation device, you need the Licensed Internal Code DVD. (An alternate installation device is an alternate IPL device that is connected to a bus other than the system bus (bus 1).)
- If you do not have current SAVSYS media or they are damaged, you need the following items:
- The distribution media (optical media or tape) that is supplied by IBM®.
- All the optical media for PTFs that you previously applied. Use the distribution media only if you do not have SAVSYS media. If you use the distribution media to restore the Licensed Internal Code, some of your system information is lost, such as the PTFs you were applied.
- The list of all the PTFs applied to your system at the time you saved the entire system. This list is attached to your backup log or with your SAVSYS media.
Note: If you saved to virtual media, you also saved your Licensed Internal Code and operating system
to physical media from the virtual images. Physical media is needed to begin the recovery process.
You must also have access to all of your user data on physical media.
Before you begin loading the Licensed Internal Code.
- Clean the read and write heads of the tape unit if you are using a tape device.
- If your source system (the system that was saved and needs recovery) is operational, print a
list of all the PTFs currently on the system. Type the following and press the Enter key:
DSPPTF LICPGM(*ALL) OUTPUT(*PRINT)
If you are using Operations Console, local area network (LAN), or direct connect, disconnect from your system and close Operations Console. Restart Operations Console and reconnect by using the user ID of QSECOFR and password of QSECOFR to sign on to your system.
