Recovering when you change the console type

When you restore your information to a different system or an upgraded system, you might have a different console type on the target system.

After you have restored user information, you need to create a new controller and device description. Follow these steps:

  1. Type WRKHDWRSC *LWS and press the Enter key.
You are shown the Work with Local Work Station Resources display.
  2. Type a 5 (Work with controller descriptions) in the Opt column next to the name of the first workstation controller and press the Enter key.
You are shown the Work with Controller Descriptions display.
Note: The first workstation controller might not be CTL01.
  3. Type a 1 in the Opt column and press the Enter key.
You are shown the Create Controller Description display.
  4. For the New controller description prompt, type the name that you want for the console. Press the Enter key.
Note: If you want to use the name that you had on your old system, you must first delete the device configuration name and then re-create it.
  5. Use the Create Device Description (Display) (CRTDEVDSP) command to create a device description for the console.
