Replacing a disk unit
If you must replace a failed disk unit or exchange a disk unit to prevent failure, the Replace Disk Unit wizard makes the process a simple task.
The disk unit to be replaced or exchanged must be running with either mirrored protection or device parity protection. To replace a mirrored disk unit, you must first suspend mirroring. A disk unit that is running with device parity protection can be exchanged only if it failed. A disk unit with device parity protection cannot be replaced with a non-configured disk even if it failed.
To replace a failed disk unit or exchange a suspended mirrored disk unit, follow these steps:
- Start System Service Tools (STRSST), and specify the user name and password.
- On the System Service Tools (SST) display, select Work with Disk Units.
- On the Work with Disk Units display, select Work with disk unit recovery.
- On the Work with Disk Unit Recovery display, select Replace configured unit.
- On the Select Configured Unit to Replace display, select the configured unit.
- On the Select Replacement Unit display, select the non-configured disk unit.
- On the Confirm Replace of Configured Unit display, press Enter to confirm your choice.
