Creating a disk pool

The following instructions can be used to create a basic disk pool or an independent disk pool.

To create a new basic disk pool, follow these steps:
  1. Start System Service Tools (STRSST), and specify the user name and password.
  2. On the System Service Tools (SST) display, select Work with disk units.
  3. On the Work with Disk Units display, select Work with disk configuration.
  4. On the Work with Disk Configuration display, select Add units to ASPs.
  5. On the Work with Add Units to ASPs display, select if you want an encrypted ASP or an unencrypted ASP.
  6. On the Specify New ASPs to Add Units to display, enter the ASP number (2-31) next to the disk unit(s) that you want inserted into the newly created ASP.
  7. On the Confirm Add Units display, press Enter to confirm the operation.
To create a new Independent Auxiliary Storage Pool, follow these steps:
  1. From the command line, type the command CFGDEVASP.
  2. Enter the ASP device name, along with the Action *CREATE.
  3. Then enter the ASP Type: *PRIMARY, *SECONDARY, or *UDFS.
  4. Enter if you want the units to be Protected and if you want the Independent Auxiliary Storage Pool to be encrypted.
  5. From the list of Non-configured disk units, select the units that you want be be added to the Storage Pool.
