Linking service tools user IDs to user profiles

If you link a service tools user ID to a user profile, you can have the privileges of the service tools user ID while using an IBM® i interface that requires those privileges.

You can link a service tools user ID to a user profile through SST, DST, or by using the Change SST User (CHGSSTUSR) command.

Linking an SST user ID to an operating system user profile does not normally need to be done. Linking is required only if DASD management interfaces are used or if the read of SST information is used outside of the SST interface. Linking a profile allows the operating system, while you are running under a user that is linked to an SST profile, the ability to read or retrieve certain information that is normally available only when logged in to SST. The linked profile can also run certain interfaces that are used to alter the disk management setting for balancing the distribution of data on an SSD disk drive.

You must have service (*SERVICE) special authority to use some APIs. To have the authority to call the advanced analysis commands, the current user profile must be linked to a service tools user ID that has the proper privileges.

Your service tools user ID must have the service tool security functional privilege.

You cannot change the linked user profile for the QSECOFR user ID. The QSECOFR service tools user ID is always linked to the QSECOFR user profile. Users are not able to remove this link or link any other user profile to the QSECOFR service tools user ID.

Only one user profile is allowed to link to a service tools user ID and only one service tools user ID is allowed to link to a user profile.
