Create namespaces on the NVMe device

Learn how to use the IBM® i operating system to create namespaces on the NVMe device.

NVMe namespaces become a disk unit on the IBM i logical partition.

Follow these steps to create namespaces on the NVMe device:

  1. Start System Service Tools (STRSST), and specify the username and password. Or Start DST
  2. Select Start a service tool
  3. On the Start a Service Tool display, select Display/Alter/Dump
  4. On the Display/Alter/Dump Output Device display, select Display/Alter Storage
  5. On the Select Data display, select Licensed Internal Code (LIC) data
  6. On the Select LIC Data display, select Advanced Analysis (option 14)
  7. On the Select Advanced Analysis Command display:
    1. Type 1 in the Option field
    2. Type NVMECREATENS in the Command field
    3. Press the Enter key
  8. On the Specify Advanced Analysis Options display, you need to specify three parameters:
    1. Type -Q followed by the quantity of namespaces to be created
    2. Type -C followed by the capacity in G-bytes (1 Billion bytes) that each namespace should be sized at
    3. Type -R followed by the Resource Name of the NVMe device that the create operation should be performed on
