Using the Mesh console

The IBM® Hybrid Cloud Mesh console enables users to view and manage resources, connection policies, and network traffic metrics.

Accessing the Mesh console:

To access the Mesh console, log in with your IBMid at this URL: https://app.hybridcloudmesh.ibm.com

You cannot use your IBM Cloud® credentials to log in to the Mesh console.

View topology

  • Visualize application resources and infrastructure resources through the canvas view.
  • View the details of the resources such as locations, applications, services, and edge gateways at a glance, through corresponding side panels.
  • Understand the connections between resources and diagnose problems by visualizing the network's topology and relationships through the topology view.
  • View the details of external applications and services, including whether the application or service comes from a cluster or an external deployment.
  • View metrics for application-to-service traffic, including total bytes.

Manage resources

  • View applications, services, and registered locations so that Mesh can manage their connectivity.
  • View deployment environments and choose the environments for which Mesh manages the network connectivity.
  • Create resource groups to set access for all the resources in a group by a single action.
  • View details of applications, services, deployment environments, locations, and clouds in the list or card view.
  • View managed and unmanaged resources.
  • Filter applications by labels.
  • Filter deployment environments by:
    • Cloud
    • Location
    • Type
    • Labels
  • Filter locations by:
    • Cloud
    • Type
    • City
    • Country
    • Labels
  • Filter clouds by the provider

Manage connection policies

  • Create, view, delete connection policies to control the network connectivity access between applications and services.
  • Filter the connection policies by application, service, and labels.

Viewing network traffic metrics in Grafana

  • Visualize real-time application network traffic through Grafana.
  • View charts of outgoing bytes and packets for an app, and incoming bytes and packets for a service.
  • View the gateway incoming or outgoing rate that corresponds to the tenant.

Mesh console navigation panel

Navigation panel

The following table describes the navigation options available on the Mesh console.

Table 2. Options on the Mesh console navigation panel
Element Description
Home Home Click Home to go to the Mesh console home page.
Topology Topology Click Topology to go to the Mesh console Topology list page to view the interconnected pattern of network elements across clouds.
Policies Policies Click Policies to go to the Connection policies list page. Connection policies define which applications can use a service. They enable connectivity between the namespaces in a network segment and a service that you specify. Click a policy to see more details or if you want to edit or delete the policy.
Applications & services Applications and services Click Applications and services to go to the Applications and services list page. Click the Applications or Services tabs to view a list of all the applications or services on your enterprise application network.

In the Applications tab, you can view the network segment and the numbers of deployments and services that are associated with your applications. Click an application to see more details, including the associated services, connection policies, deployments, and instances.

In the Services tab, you can view the network segment, the port and protocol, the application, and the number of connection policies that the service is associated with. Both cluster-based services and external services are listed. Click a service to see more details, including the port, protocol, endpoints and labels.
