Configuring SMTP for email notifications

The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) integration is used for enabling, disabling, and configuring email notifications for Guardium® Insights SaaS users. A default SMTP integration is included in Guardium Insights SaaS. Follow the instructions in this topic if you want to disable the default integration and create a new one.

Before you begin

To see the various settings, open the main menu. Open this menu by clicking the main menu icon (main menu)) After opening the menu, select Integrations and then select the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) card.

Note: To set up notifications, the Guardium Insights SaaS account that you are logged in to must have a valid associated email address.

Procedure

  1. When you first open the Integrations page, you will see a Default SMTP integration. You can disable this integration now - or it will be disabled automatically when you create your own integration.
  2. After reading the About information, click Next.
  3. Enter a unique name for the integration in the Name field.
  4. Host: Enter the SMTP host name.
  5. Port: Enter the port for the SMTP host.
Note: If you are using SendGrid as your email provider, you will need to use port 587 to receive emails.
  6. Return-path email address: Enter a valid email address to use for collecting and processing bounced emails.
  7. If you are using an SMTP gateway, the User name and Password are not required. However, if you are using an SMTP service, you must enter credentials for accessing the server in these fields.
  8. Public SSL certificate: Enter the server certificate details (to learn how to obtain an SSL certificate, see Obtaining an SSL certificate).
Note: If you are using SendGrid as your email provider, you will need to create the certificate with port 587 to receive emails:
    openssl s_client -showcerts -connect smtp.sendgrid.net:587
  9. After completing the configuration settings, click Test connection to ensure that the Guardium Insights SaaS can connect to the SMTP server and that it can send emails to your email address.
  10. After testing the connection, click Finish to save the SMTP configuration and create the integration.

What to do next

If your SMTP configuration is valid, you will receive an email confirming that the SMTP configuration is valid. After notifications have been enabled, you can complete the Profile settings to set the types of email notifications that you would like to receive, along with other email preferences.
