Importing group members from a CSV file

Guardium® Insights SaaS allows you to populate groups by importing members from a CSV file. This topic describes how to do this.

Before you begin

By default, you must be assigned the Administrator role to be able to manage groups.
Important: If you have policy rules that use groups as rule conditions, modifying the groups by adding or removing members will result in reactivation of group members.

To open the Groups page, select Groups in the main menu. Open this menu by clicking the main menu icon (main menu))

About this task

This topic describes how to import group members that are in a CSV file that is formatted with the first line as a header. You can import these group members when working with an individual group (after you have opened it).

Note: You cannot modify group members if the group has been imported from and kept in sync with Guardium or imported from and kept in sync with LDAP. In addition, you cannot import group members from a CSV file or LDAP connection to a parent group.

Procedure

  1. In the Groups page, determine which group you want to import to and then click on the group or select its checkbox and click Open.
  2. In the Members tab, click Add member > Import from CSV.
  3. In the Import from CSV dialog box, click Browse to locate and choose the CSV file that you want to import from. The CSV file must be formatted with the first line as a header.
Note: CSV files with more than five hundred thousand (500,000) rows will be split into multiple CSV files for the import.
Tip: When you choose a CSV file, the Preview section at the bottom populates to show you a preview of what will be imported. If you modify the Field delimiter or Column to import, the preview will update accordingly. This helps you confirm that the correct column or columns are being imported.
  4. Ensure that the correct field delimiter is specified in the Field delimiter field. If the field delimiter is incorrect, Guardium Insights SaaS will not be able to parse and import the file.
  5. In the Column to import section, choose the column mapping (map the columns in the CSV file to the columns in the group that you are importing to). If you are importing a 7-tuple group, you will select up to seven column mappings. For all other group types, you select only one column from which members are imported.
  6. Choose your preferred import method:
    • Append members from a CSV file to the existing group members.
    • Clear the group and replace with contents of a CSV file.
  7. Click Save to import the members to the group.

Results

If any of the members being imported have duplicate values, a prompt will ask you if you want to import the first member and ignore the duplicate members. If you click No in this prompt, no members will be imported. Similarly, if the members being imported have duplicate values to those that already exist in the group, the duplicates will be ignored.
