Visualizing the data in a report

You can use a predefined chart or create a customized chart for a visual representation of the data in your Guardium® Insights reports. Filter or drill into different data sets to discover patterns in your data and gain new insights at a glance.

Before you begin

To open the reports page, select Reports in the main menu. Open this menu by clicking the main menu icon (main menu)) You can also access the reports by selecting View all reports in the Favorite reports card in the Guardium Insights overview page.

About this task

Represent the data from a predefined or custom report in the form of a chart. The horizontal axis corresponds to the data point that you select from the report table and the vertical axis represents the count of activities. When you add a distribution variable, the chart depicts each data set in a different color.

Filter the data by time. You can save your chart as an existing report or as a new custom report.

Procedure

  1. Select your report from the Reports page.
  2. Click the Data visualization menu and filter the report by time. Predefined charts, if any, are displayed here. If your report does not have a predefined chart, you can create one by clicking Get Started.
  3. Configure or modify your Chart settings.
    1. Select the Type of chart from the drop-down menu.
    2. For the X-axis, select a data point that's available for your chart. This value appears on the horizontal axis of your chart.
    3. Enter the Maximum items you want to see in the horizontal axis.
As an example, if you choose 10 as the maximum number of items and Database name as the input for your horizontal axis, you can view up to 10 databases in the horizontal axis of your chart.
    4. Optional: Drill into your data by specifying another metric. In the Show distribution by field, use the drop-down menu to select another data point from your report.
As an example, if you select Database name for the horizontal axis and DB user as the distribution variable, you can view the activity count of each DB user in each database, all at one glance.
    5. Optional: If you selected a distribution variable, then you can also select the Maximum items that you want to see for each variable.
As an example, if the distribution variable is DB user, and the Maximum items is 5, you can view the activity of up to five users. If you have over five users, the activity of the additional users is grouped under the Other category.
    6. Click Apply.
  4. Save your chart as an existing report or as a new custom report.
  5. You can filter the chart by selecting a different time interval, by clicking the horizontal axis, or by using the chart legend. You can also click the Chart settings icon to modify the configuration.
  6. If you delete a column in your report, your chart reverts to the saved version, if any. If a saved version does not already exist, the chart is deleted. You can also manually delete the chart by clicking the Delete chart icon.
