Importing policies from Guardium Data Protection

Import monitoring policies from Guardium® Data Protection.

Premium This feature is available only in the Premium edition of Guardium Insights.

Supported versions

To use the policy import feature on Guardium Insights (GI), your Guardium Data Protection (GDP) system must be patched to the minimum supported version. The supported versions are:
  • GDP version 11.4: patch 11.0p491
  • GDP version 11.5: patch 11.0p545
  • GDP version 12.0: patch 12.0p20

The supported policy type is data security. The supported rule types are access, exception, and result-set (also known as extrusion in GDP).

Importing a policy

You can import existing policies from GDP when your GI system is connected to a GDP central manager.

Navigate to the Policies screen and click the Import policy icon. Select one or more policies to import to GI, then click the Import button.

This task usually takes a couple of minutes to complete. If a policy is stuck in waiting for more than a few minutes, the policy import might fail.

The status column displays the status of the import. Expected status messages include:
  • Active
  • Invalid
  • Inactive
  • Import failed

After the policy import task is complete, you'll receive a notification of the status. You can click the bell icon to see the notification that explains why a policy import failed or is invalid.

A policy is determined to be invalid when it's missing information or when the configuration doesn’t conform to GI standards. Some examples include policies with unsupported actions, rules, or parameters, policies that use of integration type actions, or a policy rule which uses a group that was not imported beforehand from the same central manager.
Note: If a policy is already imported, importing it again overwrites the existing policy on GI. If a policy with the same name is imported from a different GDP central manager, the central manager's name is appended to the imported policy's name.
