Upgrading IBM Fusion services
From the IBM Fusion user interface, upgrade the IBM Fusion services, namely Data Foundation, Global Data Platform, and Data Cataloging. The Backup & Restore service auto upgrades based on availability and you can monitor the progress.
Before you begin
About this task
You can upgrade the services from the Services page or the page of the IBM Fusion user interface.
When you upgrade from the Services page, you can initiate upgrade of individual services based on the availability of a new version. In the Upgrade page, you can initiate multiple non-disruptive and rolling upgrades of service in parallel. For both non disruptive and rolling upgrades, you can view the status of the prechecks and monitor the progress of the upgrade. In the Services page, click View upgrade details of a ongoing service upgrade and in the Upgrade page, you can click the service tile of an ongoing upgrade to monitor the pre-check results and the progress of the upgrade in a slide out pane.
In addition, in the Upgrade page, you can do rolling disruptive upgrade where the upgrade mandates a node restart. To minimize the impact on the workloads, these restarts happen one at a time.
- View the availability of an upgrade
-
You can view the availability of an upgrade in the following user interface pages:
- In OpenShift® Container Platform web management console, go to Overview page and check the Activity section.
- In the IBM Fusion user interface:
- Click the bell icon and view notifications in System notifications.
- Check the notification banner on the Services page.
- Check the notification banner on the Settings > Upgrade page.
- Pre-checks
- When you initiate upgrade, the Upgrade <service name> window gets displayed. The IBM Fusion runs common pre-checks that impact the upgrade of the service. To know more about the prechecks and its coverage, see the user interface. If all the checks pass or there are some conditions in warning state, you can proceed with the upgrade. However, it is highly recommended to fix the warnings to prevent any potential impacts on the system during the upgrade process. Immediately address any blocker errors encountered during prechecks, as they require fixing before proceeding with the upgrade. After the completion of all pre-checks, a summary of total number of issues found gets displayed. Wait for a moment to see the precheck status in the IBM Fusion user interface.
