Data Foundation Storage

This section answers questions that are related to storage in IBM Fusion.

  1. Does the Data Foundation support Object Storage?
Yes, the Data Foundation support Object Storage.
  2. What are the supported deployments?
All IBM Fusion services are supported on the Bare Metal platform of IBM Fusion. For supported deployments, see IBM Fusion services and platform support matrix.
  3. What is the supported Data Foundation version?
The Data Foundation version is the same as the OpenShift® Container Platform version, for example, on OpenShift Container Platform 4.16, install Data Foundation 4.16.

For a complete list of supported versions, see Support matrix for IBM Fusion (SDS) versions.

  4. What is the difference between Fusion Data Foundation and Red Hat® OpenShift Data Foundation?
Fusion Data Foundation and Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation provide similar functionality for provisioning container-native storage in an OpenShift cluster. IBM allows Red Hat to resell support for ODF through a subscription model, with some minor differences in capability. For example, Provider mode is not available in ODF. Red Hat offers ODF in two editions: ODF Essentials and ODF Advanced, with ODF Advanced including Disaster Recovery (DR) capabilities. Currently, neither IBM Fusion nor IBM Cloud Paks include a subscription to Red Hat ODF. The FDF image is sourced from the IBM image repository, while the ODF image is sourced from the Red Hat image repository.
  5. What levels of encryption are supported?
Both cluster-wide encryption and storageclass encryption are supported.
  6. How to handle and support key management?
Support is available for external Key Management System, either HashiCorp Vault or Thales CipherTrust Manager.
  7. Does Fusion Data Foundation support encryption of data in flight?
Yes, it utilizes Transport Layer Security (TLS).
