Expanding your Hosted Control Plane Bare Metal cluster

Add a new host to the exiting Bare Metal Hosted Control Plane cluster.

About this task

After a new Bare Metal host is available in the infrastructure > Nodes > Discovered nodes tab, you can optionally choose to add node to the Hosted Control Plane Bare Metal cluster.

Procedure

  1. Create nmstate config for new node following nmstate YAML template.
For more information about nmstate, see Create the NMStateConfig for each host.
  2. Add this new host in the host inventory and boot from the discovery ISO. In MCE, approve the host in the host inventory.
For more information about these steps, see Download the discovery.iso and Boot the host with the discovery.iso.

Wait for sometime for the host to be available in MCE. After you approve, it changes to available state. For more information about the steps to accept, see Accept the host into the MCE Inventory.

  3. Go to Infrastructure > Clusters > <Your Bare Metal HCP Cluster Name>.
  4. Expand Cluster nodepools section and click the ellipsis menu of the node pool.
  5. Increase the value of Number of hosts based on the number of new hosts that you plan to add. For example, if you have two nodes in the cluster and want to expand it by one more, then the value of Number of hosts is 3.
  6. Click Update.
It initiates the addition of a new node to an existing cluster and completes within a few minutes.
