Deploy Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Operator
Procedure to deploy the Red Hat® OpenShift® Virtualization Operator.
About this task
OpenShift Virtualization provides a platform to bring virtual machines (VMs) into containerized workflows by running a virtual machine within a container where you develop, manage, and deploy virtual machines side-by-side with containers in one platform. For more information about how to create and manage VMs, see Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization and What you can do with OpenShift Virtualization.
A list of example VM features that the Red Hat
OpenShift Virtualization supports:
- Create and manage Linux and Windows virtual machines
- Connect to virtual machines through a variety of consoles and CLI tools
- Import and clone existing virtual machines
- Manage network interface controllers and storage disks attached to virtual machines
Procedure
- Go to the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Operator Hub.
- Search for OpenShift Virtualization.
- Install the OpenShift Virtualization Operator.
- Configure the installation parameters to either custom or recommended namespace.
- Wait for the installation to complete.
- Go to OpenShift Virtualization in Installed Operators page and click Create Hyperconverged to configure the Hyperconverged resource.
- When the Operator deployment is complete go to Installed Operators
and look for OpenShift Virtualization within
the
openshift-cnv
or your namespace. - Check whether the status is successful. A new Virtualization menu appears. It indicates that your cluster is now ready to deploy virtual machines within a project /or namespace of your choice.
