Deploying Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Operator
Procedure to deploy the Red Hat® OpenShift® Virtualization Operator.
About this task
OpenShift Virtualization provides a platform to bring virtual machines (VMs) into containerized workflows by running a virtual machine within a container where you develop, manage, and deploy virtual machines side-by-side with containers in one platform. For more information about how to create and manage VMs, see Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization and What you can do with OpenShift Virtualization.
A list of example VM features that the Red Hat
OpenShift Virtualization supports:
- Create and manage Linux and Windows virtual machines
- Connect to virtual machines through a variety of consoles and CLI tools
- Import and clone existing virtual machines
- Manage network interface controllers and storage disks attached to virtual machines
Procedure
- Go to the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Operator Hub.
- Search for OpenShift Virtualization.
- Install the OpenShift Virtualization Operator.
- Configure the installation parameters to either custom or recommended namespace.
- Wait for the installation to complete.
- Go to OpenShift Virtualization in Installed Operators page and click Create Hyperconverged to configure the Hyperconverged resource.
- When the Operator deployment is complete go to Installed Operators
and look for OpenShift Virtualization within
the
openshift-cnv
or your namespace. - Check whether the status is successful. A new Virtualization menu appears. It indicates that your cluster is now ready to deploy virtual machines within a project /or namespace of your choice.
What to do next
- You can create virtual machines with any default size or custom sizes.
For more information about how to deploy and manage virtual machines on Bare Metal clusters, see Managing virtual machines on Bare Metal Hosted Control Plane cluster.
- Use
ocs-storagecluster-ceph-rbd-virtualization
storage class for the OS disk of VMs. For more information about setting storage, see Setting storage for virtual machines. - Optionally, create a VLAN of type Virtualization VLAN and add the created VLAN to Link. For more information about how to add VLANs, see Adding VLANs.
