Choosing your storage type

Guidance to choose between Fusion Data Foundation and IBM Storage Scale storage.

Fusion Data Foundation is designed to provide persistent storage and cluster data management. It supports containerized environments and integrates seamlessly with Red Hat® OpenShift®. It supports file, block, and object storage, and provides a consistent storage experience across hybrid cloud environments.

The IBM Storage Scale storage is designed for building a global data platform for AI, high-performance computing (HPC), advanced analytics, and other demanding workloads. It supports file and object storage for unstructured data.

Fusion Data Foundation is tailored for containerized environments, multi cluster, virtualization, and OpenShift deployments, while IBM Storage Scale is more towards AI, HPC, and analytics workloads.

After installing the IBM Fusion HCI, you have the flexibility to install either of these storage types (IBM Storage Scale or Fusion Data Foundation) as a service through the user interface.
