New features in 4.18

Each release offers new functionalities and improvements. Read this information for a high-level summary of the new features introduced in the Fusion Data Foundation 4.18 release.

Regional disaster recovery (Regional-DR) support for provider mode

IBM Fusion HCI with Fusion Data Foundation client in provider mode supports the Regional-DR capability that is built on asynchronous data replication. While Regional-DR uses asynchronous replication with some risk of data loss, it protects business-critical applications on the IBM Fusion from region failures.

For more information, see Disaster recovery configuration for Fusion Data Foundation.

Disabling DR for a given workload

Disaster recovery (DR) can be disabled for a given workload for managed applications and discovered applications through the OpenShift Web Console.

For more information, see Disabling disaster recovery for a disaster recovery-enabled application.

Disaster recovery protection for cloned and restored RBD volumes

Disaster recovery protection can be enabled for cloned and restored RADOS Block Device (RBD) volumes during DR policy creation for Regional-DR.

For more information, see Disaster recovery protection for cloned and restored RBD volumes.

Setting up DR in clusters with overlapping pod and service CIDR

The ODF CLI tool can be used on existing OpenShift deployments with overlapping pod and service Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) to verify the clusters meet the prerequisites for peering. The tool verifies the two clusters have non-overlapping service and pod CIDR.

For more information, see Configuring Regional-DR.

More recipe capabilities for RBD-based applications

The capabilities of recipes are enhanced to support many more RBD-based applications.

For more information, see Enrolling a sample discovered application for disaster recovery protection.

Storage quota for provider mode clients

During the installation of the Fusion Data Foundation client in provider mode you can allocate the storage quota to control the storage quota usage for the Fusion Data Foundation client.

For more information, see Installing Fusion Data Foundation on a Hosted Control Plane cluster.

Versioning for Multicloud Object Gateway bucket replication

Versioning in Multicloud Object Gateway (MCG) enables object data collaboration between two different locations or replication of object data from NooBaa on-prem to NooBaa on AWS, NooBaa to NooBaa, on any platform. This allows opting in for synchronizing versioning.

For more information, see Synchronizing versions in Multicloud Object Gateway bucket replication.

Bucket notification in Multicloud Object Gateway

Bucket notifications allow for a performant data pipeline creation. With this, it becomes easy to create a data flow where newly ingested data can be immediately detected and further processed. This is specifically important in AI/ML use cases.

For more information, see Bucket notification in Multicloud Object Gateway.
