Configuring Scale to enable watch creation

Configuring Scale user to enable watch creation

Configure an IBM Storage Scale user with all the needed privileges to enable watch creation.

IBM Storage Scale has a spectrum of user roles, each with varying degree of privileges. For example, Security Administrator, Administrator, System Administrator, Storage Administrator, CSI Administrator, Container Operator. For more information about the user roles, see Scale Administration Guide.

As part of doing the IBM Storage Scale remote mount, the Global Data Platform asks the user to ensure they are a part of both CSI Administrator and Container Operator. The StorageAdmin is needed to enable CAS to manage filesystem configurations such as clustered watch. For more information about the configuration steps, see Connecting to remote IBM Storage Scale file systems.

It is not sufficient for the CAS user to just be a part of the Storage Administrator group, in addition to the CsiAdmin,ContainerOperator groups. As a IBM Storage Scale admin, run the following example command from command line:
/usr/lpp/mmfs/gui/cli/chuser csi-storage-gui-user -g CsiAdmin,ContainerOperator,StorageAdmin
Example output:
EFSSG0020I The user cast-user has been successfully changed.
EFSSG1000I The command completed successfully.

It involves the alignment of the CSI user name to match the one previously created during the remote cluster setup using the Global Data Platform.

Configuring Scale to enable immediate change detection

Configure an IBM Storage Scale such that the new watch folder starts detecting document change immediately. As an IBM Storage Scale admin, run the following command and ensure that the IBM Storage Scale is at version 5.2.3.1:

mmdiag --version
Then run the following command introduced in IBM Storage Scale 5.2.3.1:
mmchconfig syncReadWFConfig=yes --force -i
