Managing optimization profiles

Create optimization profiles to define business objectives for different channels or different circumstances. The optimizer uses profiles to determine the best option for fulfilling an order while meeting business objectives.

About this task

By default, an optimization profile exists. If needed, you can change the settings of the profile. Alternatively, you can refer to the following procedure to create more profiles. To view the default profile, click the overflow menu next to the profile and then select View default profile. To edit the default profile, select Edit default profile from the overflow menu. To delete a profile, select Delete profile from the overflow menu.
Note: You cannot copy or delete the default optimization profile.

The optimization profiles are displayed in the Active, Scheduled, Inactive, and Expired tabs and the number of optimization profiles contained within each tab is also shown. By default, the Active tab is displayed. If a tab does not contain any optimization profiles, it appears unavailable.

Procedure

  1. From the menu, click Promise and fulfill > Sourcing and scheduling > Optimization and Promising rules.
  2. To create an optimization profile, in the Optimization settings section, go to the Optimization profiles tab.
  3. Click Create profile.
  4. To create a profile, provide inputs for the following fields.
    Profile name
Specify a name to identify the purpose of the optimization profile.
    Priority
Specify a priority or rank. The priority of 1 ranks higher.
    Profile
By default, this toggle is set to Active.
    Conditions
Select either Channel or Seller and set the condition for them.
Select either Channel or Seller or Order status and set the condition for them.
Note: To apply cost optimization for prepurchase orders, select Order status condition. For more information about cost-based optimization, see Scenario: Calculate prepurchase shipment assignments and minimize the cost-to-serve.
After application of the Order status condition, you will see a new optimization profile with the condition Order Type = CART
    Objective optimization weights
Specify the objective optimization weights based on your preferences.
You can specify the objective optimization weights by adjusting the slider values from 0 to 100. By setting the objective optimization weights, as a fulfillment manager you can prioritize order optimization and fulfillment according to the business goals. The Optimization service supports the following optimization objectives.
    • Minimizing shipping cost
    • Minimizing processing cost
    • Balancing node cost
    • SIP Premium contentAvoiding stockouts
    • SIP Premium contentAvoiding markdowns
    • SIP Premium contentPreview: Optimizing node performance
    • Optimizing delivery speed

In the Display settings page, select the General tab and browse to the Promise and fulfill section to toggle the Optimizing node performance setting to show or hide it in the Optimization objective page.

For more information about the optimization objectives, see Optimization objectives.

Note: If you set load balancing to a nonzero value, you must configure capacity for optimization, and manage node-balancing values. For more information, see Legacy Configuring capacity for optimization and Managing node-balancing values.
    Schedule
Specify the time period to apply to the optimization profile. If you want the schedule to always apply, select Unrestricted.
The system follows the schedule when the Status is set to Active.
  5. Click Save.

What to do next

When the optimization profile is set as per your business objectives, the Optimization service optimizes all future orders according to fulfill your business objectives. You can see the order optimization insights by opting for one of the following options.
  • You can refer to the Optimization dashboard to view information about the nodes and KPIs related to total costs, orders, packages, and units that are considered during the orders optimization process. For more information about the Optimization dashboard, see Viewing the optimization dashboard.
  • You can see how an individual order was optimized by using the Optimization explainer. For more information about the considered and winning nodes for the specific order, see Viewing the optimization explainer.
  • You can see accumulated benefits of order optimization based on your optimization profile by using the Benefits report. For more information, see Viewing the benefits report.
