Rule Set Processing Levels

When processing a transmission, the transmission rule set name, the Business Rules workflow name, and the batch (ICL) rule set name used by the Gateway are configured at different processing level instances. This allows greater control when changing what validation is performed. A lower level configuration takes precedence over a higher level configuration.

Table 1 shows the hierarchy of the configuration levels.
Table 1. Gateway Configuration Hierarchy
Level Transmission Rule Sets Batch (ICL) Rule Sets Business Rules Workflow
Transmission Type (Global) X X X
Sending point (in combination with a transmission type) X X
Collection Type   X X
Inbound Product   X X
Deposit Partner (in combination with an inbound product)   X X
For example, a batch (ICL) rule set name is configured for both of the following:
  • a transmission type instance of an image cash letter
  • an ANSI X9.37 collection type of 01
Because the collection type level has a higher precedence, the rule set name for the collection type is used whenever a collection type of 01 is encountered. If the collection type is not 01, the rule set name configured for the image cash letter transmission type is used.
