Global monitors

Global monitors are monitor definitions that apply to all transactions that match the criteria that are configured for the monitor.

Global monitors are used to define the maximum amount limits for the credit and debit transactions that are received by a participant during the lifetime of the monitor. A monitor can have a different limit for the credit and debit transactions. These credit and debit limits can be changed for specific participants based on the criteria and new limit values that are defined in limit change rules for the monitor. A limit change rule contains one or more limit change conditions. Limit change conditions define the criteria that must be met for the limit change rule to be used to adjust the credit or debit limits for the monitor.

The limit change rules for a global monitor are evaluated in the order of their priority, from highest to lowest. The evaluation continues until the conditions in a limit change rule are met or it is determined that none of the limit change rules apply. A lower priority number indicates that the limit change rule has a higher priority; for example, 1 is the highest priority. When the criteria for a limit change rule are met, the limits from the limit change rule are used instead of the limits that are defined in the global monitor. For more information about defining global monitors, see Global limit monitors page.

A global monitor can apply to many participants at one time. For each global monitor definition, a runtime instance of that global monitor is created for each of the originating participants that have transactions that match the criteria that are defined for the global monitor. When an originating participant has participant-specific Risk monitors, both the global monitors and the monitors that are defined for the participant are applied to any transactions that match the Risk definition criteria.

A global limit monitor can be overridden by a participant-specific limit monitor. A participant-specific monitor overrides a global monitor when the values for all the configuration properties in the following list are the same as in the configuration for the global monitor.
  • Monitor name
  • Monitor level
  • Limit span
  • Monitor type
  • Monitor type value
  • Date type
The overridden global limit monitor is not applied to the specific participant.
