Properties pages
Distribution may be customized to fit business needs by using properties that are changed through the Distribution user interface. During installation, a default set of values is assigned to these properties. When changes to the properties are saved, the changes take effect immediately. Distribution does not need to be restarted.
Default values
Most properties are assigned a default value. Those properties that are required by the Distribution runtime are automatically assigned with a default value. Each default value can be changed by assigning a custom value. The custom value always takes precedence over the default value. If no custom value is specified, the default value is used.
Those properties that are optional for the Distribution runtime have an empty or zero default value. Refer to the property topics for more information about the default values for Distribution properties.
Property validation
Some properties may require validation to ensure that any custom values are entered correctly. Validation is performed when changes are saved. If a property is determined to be invalid, the user interface identifies the property that is invalid by placing a red X beside the custom entry field. An error message identifying why the custom value is in error is displayed at the top of the page.
