Hot key management

A hot key mapping contains a list of hot key sequences, which are keystrokes or keystroke combinations, that are assigned to a page. Creating a hot key mapping for a page allows the user to do the functions on a page by using the keyboard instead of a mouse. A key sequence or page function cannot appear twice in the same map and is not allowed by the create keyboard mapping page.

Some pages support defining key sequences for functions that require more data. When one of these functions is selected, one or more entry fields are displayed for the user to enter the additional data. When the hot key mapping is added or updated, the values of any additional fields are stored as part of the hot key mapping.

Note: Some hot key combinations might already be used by the browser. In such cases, the hot key action for the browser can take precedence over the hot key action for the page and the user might not see the expected behavior. To avoid this situation, verify that an assigned hot key produces the expected behavior when a specific browser is used.
