Pausing and resuming Distribution
The user can manually control the release of transmissions by using Distribution to pause and resume them. All transmissions or transmissions for specific participants can be paused and resumed. When the user selects a system pause, no transmissions are released by Distribution until the user resumes the system pause. When a specific participant is paused, only those transmissions for the selected participant are not released until the user manually resumes sending to that participant. In addition, the user can extend the deadline time when they are creating the pause. Each time a user requests a pause or resume, information about the user is added to the audit log.
Pausing transmissions
When the user does a system pause, any unreleased transmissions in the system are placed into the paused state and are held. The same process occurs for the unreleased transmissions for a specific participant that is paused. If the user selected the extend deadline option when the pause was created, Distribution continues to accept new transmissions and places them in a state called paused and extended.
Resuming transmissions
When the user manually resumes a system pause, all the transmissions in the system that are in the paused or the paused and extended states are released. The same process occurs for the paused transmissions and the paused and extended transmissions for the participant that is resumed. After all of the paused transmissions are released, the original pause request is complete and is no longer available to the user.
Occasionally, a resume request has an error or takes a long time to run. If this issue happens for a resume request, use the last updated information on the user interface to determine whether the request is still running. If the request is in an error status or the last updated information wasn’t recently updated, consider reissuing the resume request instead of waiting for it to complete normally.
Requesting a pause or resume
Use the pause / resume page to create pause and resume requests and ensure that they complete successfully. When a pause is requested, information about the number of transmissions paused, the number of participants paused, or both, is displayed as a warning message on the user interface. Status and additional information about all the active pause and resume requests is also displayed on the page. For more information about the pause / resume page, see Pause / Resume page.
