Replica Endpoints

An endpoint can designate another endpoint as a replica endpoint. Transactions mapped to an endpoint having a replica endpoint appear in both the original and the replica transmission. Each transmission contains the same number of transactions, segments, and batches (ICLs). When the transmission for the main endpoint is built, the replica transmission is also built. The replica endpoint may specify a different building option and transmission definition than the main endpoint, which allows differently formatted transmissions to be built. Examples of the different formatted transmissions are:
  • one file contains images and the other does not
  • one file creates type 28 records and the other does not

Since the transmissions have identical transactions, segments, and batches (ICLs), the thresholds from the main endpoint are used and override the thresholds specified for the replica endpoint. If the main endpoint’s building options specify 300 transactions in a segment and the replica endpoint’s building options specify 250 transactions in a segment, both transmissions contain segments with 300 transactions for each segment.

When a request is made to build a segment or transmission for the main endpoint, the corresponding segment or transmission for the replica endpoint is also built. Replica endpoints are never grouped together in a single file. Each replica endpoint is in its own file. For more information, see Grouping Endpoints.

While building a replica transmission, if the replica transmission size threshold is exceeded, the remaining segments and batches (ICLs) are moved to a new transmission. If a single segment is larger than the replica transmission size threshold, a replica transmission is created with this one segment. A replica transmission may exceed the missing image threshold. If the user elects to ignore the missing image threshold, the replica transmission is sent; otherwise it is placed into a build error state. A replica transmission is also placed in a build error state if any of its segments is in an error state. A replica transmission in the build error state is not built and released until the build error is addressed and the build and release command is manually issued.
