Purging
The Business Rules Manager does regular cleanup on the Business Rules database repository and intermediate data files. This process occurs at regular intervals as set by the cleanupTime property. Components for the given (calculated) and previous dates are deleted. The Business Rules Manager controls the deletion of older files by using the keepDays property.
Closed releases are also deleted in the database. The releases to keep and releases days to keep properties control the deletion. These properties are maintained in the environment database record. For more information about environment database records, see Maintaining the Environments.
More environment control is available with effective dating, which uses the effective date expiration. Effective date expiration is the number of business days to retain active releases. Older releases are automatically closed. The instances of Business Rules Server are notified to purge the effective dated files. This process is done through the purge distribution script.
Purging removes files and records on and before the calculated date. Another purge method targets a specific date. For example, if a user activates an incorrect date, such as Saturday instead of Monday, this method allows Saturday to be deleted without deleting the tables for Friday. It is a more precise way of removing files on the Business Rules Server and allows intermediate files to be skipped. The specific purge is initiated in the user interface. For more information, see Maintaining the Releases.
