Distribution
Typically, only one release in the environment can be active at a time. Active means it has been distributed to the Business Rules Server instances. With effective dating, multiple active releases are allowed.
Activating a release requires the operator to enter the date, which is stored in the release record as part of the activation information. If the selected date is new, the workflow and tables are distributed and maintained separately. If the date has already been distributed, the workflow and tables on the Business Rules Server with the effective date are replaced and the previous active release is closed.
Files distributed through the Business Rules Manager on the Business Rules Server contain the effective date in the file name. The format is: .EDyyyymmdd and is located just prior to the file extension. An example is AccumulatorAssignmentTable_20100729_064959421.ED20100730.xml.
