Sample dashboards

Most of the sample dashboards have several tabs that show graphs and key performance indicators (KPIs). The tabs have some common filters that can be used to perform an in-depth analysis of the data.

In addition, there are chart widgets that provide support for traversing up and down the entries in a navigation tree. The navigation groups in the data modules define the navigation trees for a dashboard.

For example, the following navigation group is defined:

Year → Quarter → Month → Day

In this example, the year is the highest part of the tree and the day is the lowest. By navigating up and down this group, you can widen or narrow the scope of the information that is displayed by the dashboard.

Changing the samples

Additional navigation groups can be created within a sample dashboard as needed. Before changing one of the samples, consider copying the data module and dashboard for the sample to a new folder in Cognos®. Make any changes to dashboard in the new folder instead of modifying the originally installed sample.
