Second tier Image Quality Analysis rules

A second tier Image Quality Analysis rule is an IQA rule that runs the same IQA test on the same image view as an existing rule, but has a different test value and error code. For example, a user may want to review images that are only slightly lighter than their normal darkness low IQA test, but automatically reject the images that are much lighter than the normal test. The additional darkness low threshold is implemented using a second tier IQA rule. The IQA test results for a transaction indicate whether one or both of the rules failed.

Second tier Image Quality Analysis rules work because the different error codes for an error category can have different override indicators. The override indicator of the error code for the normal or existing rule is set to yes, which allows an operator to review the image and change the error code for a transaction. Error codes for second tier rules have the override indicator set to no, which causes a transaction that failed the IQA test to be automatically rejected. For more information about rejection processing and the override indicator, see Image Validation Overview.

To implement a second tier Image Quality Analysis rule:
  1. Create a new error code to use for the second tier rule. Ensure that:
    • the override indicator is set to no
    • the IQA category is selected
    • the description field clearly indicates that this error code is for a specific second tier rule
For more information about creating error codes, see Error Codes page.
  2. Create a new IQA image validation rule that uses the new error code. Ensure that:
    • the IQA test and image view for this rule are the same as the normal or existing rule that causes the transaction to be reviewed
    • the test value used for this rule is different than the one used in the normal or existing rule
    • the test value defines the condition needed for the transaction to be automatically rejected
    • test required is set to yes
For more information about adding image validation rules to an image validation rule set, see Manage Image Validation Rule Sets.
Table 1 and Table 2 show a very basic example of setting up the normal and second tier IQA rules that allow a user to review back black and white images that are only slightly lighter than a normal image and automatically reject back black and white images that are known to be too light.
Note: These tables do not show all of the configuration fields for error codes and image validation rules.
Table 1. Second tier example error codes
Normal or second tier rule? Error code Override indicator Category Description
Normal ICM9998 Yes Image Compliance (IQA) Review back black and white images that are slightly lighter than normal
Second tier ICM9999 No Image Compliance (IQA) Automatically reject back black and white images that are too light (second tier rule)
Table 2. Second tier example IQA rules

Normal IQA-RBW Yes Darkness Low (Too light) 0.002 ICM9998
Second tier IQA-RBW Yes Darkness Low (Too light) 0.001 ICM9999
