Communication protocols and supported encryption algorithms

The IBM® Flex System Manager can communicate with target resources by using a predetermined set of communication protocols. Depending on the type of managed system, these communication protocols support various levels of encryption.

The following combinations of communication protocols and encryption algorithms are supported.

Table 1. Supported communication protocols and encryption algorithms
Managed system type Communication protocol Encryption algorithm
Agentless managed system Windows Distributed component object model (DCOM) RC2.
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) v1 and v2 Not encrypted.
SNMP v3 Encrypted. Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) or Data Encryption Standard (DES).
Secure Shell (SSH)
Notes:
  • SSH is unsupported on managed systems running the Windows operating system.
  • IBM Flex System Manager does not include an SSH server. Use the SSH server included with the operating system or an SSH-compliant server from a third party.
Encryption algorithm is negotiated.
Platform Agent managed system Agentless Supports the communication protocols and encryption algorithms listed for Agentless managed system.
Common Information Model (CIM) If configured, encryption is enabled by default using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port 5989.
Common Agent managed system 5.x interprocess communication (IPC) Encrypted (AES, DES, or Triple DES).
Tivoli® Common Agent Services 6.x Encrypted Web services (SSL).
Other Service Location Protocol (SLP) Not encrypted.
