Preparing to use FlashCopy with SSH

By configuring VMControl to connect to a supported storage subsystem through a secure shell (SSH) remote service access point (RSAP), you can dramatically decrease copy times when capturing workloads and deploying virtual appliances.

About this task

To speed up copy times and utilize the FlashCopy® functionality through the SSH RSAP, your storage must be managed by one of the following configurations.
  • IBM® Tivoli® Storage Productivity Center
  • IBM Flex System Manager Storage Control
The following storage systems support FlashCopy through the SSH RSAP:
  • IBM System Storage® SAN Volume Controller
  • IBM Storwize® V7000
Note: The storage device must be enabled to perform FlashCopy operations.

Complete the following steps to establish a SSH remote service access point (RSAP) connection from VMControl to the supported storage subsystem.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the supported storage systems are added to IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center or IBM Flex System ManagerStorage Control. For more information, see "Configure storage subsystems for TPC" or "Adding a device to IBM Flex System Manager Storage Control"
  2. Ensure that you have discovered and inventoried the storage systems in IBM Flex System Manager. For more information, see "Discovering and collecting inventory for storage devices."
  3. Run the mksvcsshrsap command to establish a remote service access point connection to the supported storage subsystem. For more information, see "mksvcsshrsap command."
