Hyper-V requirements and support

This topic describes the requirements and support for the Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012, Enterprise, Standard, and Datacenter x64 Editions with Hyper-V role enabled virtualization environment in IBM® Flex System Manager VMControl.

The following diagram shows the Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012, Enterprise, Standard, and Datacenter x64 Editions with Hyper-V role enabled virtualization environment.

  • IBM Flex System Manager is installed on a supported system.
  • IBM Flex System Manager VMControl is activated.
  • Windows Server 2008, Enterprise, Standard, and Datacenter x64 Editions with Hyper-V role enabled is installed on an x86-compatible system.
  • Windows Server 2012, Enterprise, Standard, and Datacenter x64 Editions with Hyper-V role enabled is installed on an x86-compatible system.
  • IBM Flex System Manager Common Agent or Platform Agent is installed on the host.
  • Collect inventory on the managed host or its operating system.

Supported versions

VMControl supports the following virtualization software versions:
  • Windows Server 2008, Enterprise, Standard, and Datacenter x64 Editions with Hyper-V role enabled, Release 2 virtualization software
  • Windows Server 2012, Enterprise, Standard, and Datacenter x64 Editions with Hyper-V role enabled, Release 3 virtualization software
Note: Windows Server 2012 R2, Enterprise, Standard, and Datacenter x64 Editions with Hyper-V role enabled, Release 3 virtualization software does not support virtualization environments.

Supported tasks

In this environment, you can create, edit, and delete virtual servers.
Notes:
  • The Disks tab is not available for the Edit Virtual Server operation.
  • When you perform any operation on the Hyper-V console outside the IBM Flex System Manager, the result of the operation might not be shown in the IBM Flex System Manager until you collect inventory on the host.
