Changing the system topology

You can use the command-line interface or the management GUI to change the system topology.

About this task

In a standard topology, the system is configured in a single site. IBM FlashSystem supports only the standard topology. IBM SAN Volume Controller supports the stretched topology to provide high availability where nodes in an I/O group are configured in different sites with volumes configured with a mirrored copy in each site.

Note: The recommended solution for high availability is policy-based high availability.

Use the -topology parameter in the chsystem command to change the topology of the system. In the management GUI, select Monitoring > System. In the System Actions menu, select Modify System Topology.

Procedure

  1. To change the system topology from a stretched topology to a standard topology, enter the following command:
    chsystem -topology standard
  2. To verify that the site definitions have been removed from the enclosure, enter this command:
    lsnode
If either the site_id or site_name parameters are listed, remove the site definitions from the node by using the chnode command.
