Configuring multi-tenancy in FlashSystem grid

Multi‑tenancy in FlashSystem grid can be configured through the management GUI or the command‑line interface.

In the management GUI, grid administrators create tenants by specifying a tenant name, selecting the systems to include, and creating a tenant‑specific user group and user, ensuring the correct system and IP address are chosen for the User location. Tenant details, assigned systems, and storage partitions can be viewed under Tenants, with clear, actionable error messages provided as needed.

Grid administrators oversee cross‑system resources, while tenant administrators operate within isolated, tenant-specific Ownership Groups.

Configuring multi-tenancy in the management GUI

It is recommended to configure multi‑tenancy in the FlashSystem grid by using the management GUI. As a FlashSystem grid administrator, you can create tenants, assign systems, create tenant user groups and users, and remove tenants when they are no longer required.
Creating a tenant
To create a tenant by using the management GUI, log in to the FlashSystem grid interface with FlashSystem grid administrator credentials. From the navigation panel, select FlashSystem grid > Tenants, and then select Create tenant.

Enter a name for the tenant, select the systems to assign, and create the tenant user group and user.

Select the User location (system) where the user resides to create the user credentials.

After reviewing the information, complete the workflow to create the tenant. The FlashSystem grid then creates the tenant, assigns the selected systems, and generates the required tenant‑scoped user groups, users, and child pools. The tenant identity is consistent across systems through the Tenant UUID.

After tenant creation is complete, a tenant administrator can create storage partitions within the tenant's Ownership Group and configure replication policies for those partitions as required.

Viewing tenant details
To view a tenant, select FlashSystem grid > Tenants and select the Tenant name from the list.

The tenant details page shows the systems that are assigned to the tenant, the storage partitions, the tenant user groups, and the pools that the FlashSystem grid created. If the configuration has an issue, the management GUI displays an actionable message to help the administrator identify and correct the problem.

The management GUI supports adding systems to a tenant and removing systems from a tenant. Systems can be added or removed by using the Add system or Remove system for the tenant. A system can be removed from a tenant only after all associated resources are removed. These resources include storage partitions, child pools, and user groups.

Removing a tenant

A tenant can be removed from the FlashSystem grid only after all associated systems are removed from the tenant. When the last associated system with a tenant is removed, the tenant is automatically deleted.

Viewing tenant information in the command-line interface

Note: You can manage tenant resources by using the command-line interface. However, this method requires multiple synchronization steps for ownership groups and UIDs across systems. To reduce manual effort and configuration complexity, use the FlashSystem grid management GUI.
After you create the tenant, you can view tenant information by using following commands.
