Management GUI

The system includes an easy-to-use management GUI to help you to monitor, manage, and configure your system.

You can access the management GUI by opening any supported web browser and entering the management IP address. In addition to simple setup, configuration, and management functions, the management GUI provides several functions that help filter and sort data on the system:
Automatic and manual resizing of main navigation
The main navigation menu automatically shrinks or expands based on the width of the browser viewport. If sufficient space is available, the navigation menu automatically expands to show the main navigation item names. When in the expanded mode, a toggle button is available to shrink or expand the navigation menu manually.
Filtering and sorting objects
On windows that include columns, you can sort each column by clicking the column heading. You can use the filtering feature to display items that include only text that you specify.
Selecting multiple objects
You can use the Ctrl key to select multiple items and choose actions on those objects by right-clicking them to display the actions menu. You can right-click any column heading to add or remove columns from the table.
Using preset options
The management GUI includes several preestablished configuration options to help you save time during the configuration process. For example, you can select from several preset options when you create a new volume. These preset options incorporate commonly used parameters.
Viewing help
Another useful interface feature is integrated help. You can access help for some fields and objects in the management GUI by hovering over the question mark icon near the object. Panel-specific help is available by clicking Need Help or by using the Help link in the upper-right corner of the management GUI.
Global search
The global search option enables you to find objects and menus in the system. This feature uses object attributes to search and navigates you to the selected object or menu that appears in the search result. The following objects are supported to appear in the search result:
  • Partition
  • Volume
  • Volume group
  • Snapshot
  • Host
  • Host port
  • Host cluster
  • Fibre Channel port
  • IP address

Checking your web browser settings for the management GUI

You must have the latest supported web browser to access the management GUI. The management GUI supports the following HTML5-compliant browsers:
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Mozilla Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR)
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Google Chrome
Note: The minimum viewport for browser window for the management GUI is 1024 x 768. Scaling browser view to less than those dimensions affects readability of data on management GUI pages.

IBM® supports higher versions of the browsers if the vendors do not remove or disable function that the product relies upon. For browser levels higher than the versions that are certified with the product, customer support accepts usage-related and defect-related service requests. If the support center cannot re-create the issue, support might request the client to re-create the problem on a certified browser version. If a problem is identified with the browser, IBM might investigate potential solutions or work-arounds that the client can implement until a permanent solution becomes available.

The GUI requires the following configuration settings:
  • JavaScript enabled
  • Cookies enabled
  • File Download enabled
  • Disable or Replace Context menus (Mozilla Firefox only)
Refer to browser documentation on how to configure these settings.

When to use the management GUI

The management GUI is the primary tool that is used to service your system.

Regularly monitor the status of the system using the management GUI. If you suspect a problem, use the management GUI first to diagnose and resolve the problem.

Use the views that are available in the management GUI to verify the status of the system, the hardware devices, the physical storage, and the available volumes. The Monitoring > Events panel provides access to all problems that exist on the system. Use the Recommended Actions filter to display the most important events that need to be resolved.

If there is a service error code for the alert, you can run a fix procedure that assists you in resolving the problem. These fix procedures analyze the system and provide more information about the problem. They suggest actions to take and step you through the actions that automatically manage the system where necessary. Finally, they check that the problem is resolved.

If there is an error that is reported, always use the fix procedures within the management GUI to resolve the problem. Always use the fix procedures for both system configuration problems and hardware failures. The fix procedures analyze the system to ensure that the required changes do not cause volumes to be inaccessible to the hosts. The fix procedures automatically perform configuration changes that are required to return the system to its optimum state.
