Managing the Safeguarded Copy function
Safeguarded Copy function supports the ability to create cyber-resilient point-in-time copies of volumes that cannot be changed or deleted through user errors, malicious actions, or ransomware attacks.
Safeguarded snapshots are supported on the system through an internal scheduler that is defined in the snapshot policy. When the policy is assigned to a volume group, you can select Safeguarded option. The policy creates immutable snapshots of all volumes in the volume group. The system supports internal and external snapshot scheduling applications such as IBM Copy Services Manager and IBM® Storage Copy Data Management. For Safeguarded snapshots with internal scheduler, refer to Snapshots.
After you configure Safeguarded Copy function on your system, ensure to regularly test the configuration to ensure that Safeguarded backups are ready in the event of a cyberattack. In addition to testing and recovering, you can also manage objects that are related to the Safeguarded Copy function on the system. These tasks include adding source volumes to Safeguarded volume groups, managing Safeguarded backups after expiration, and other actions. Some administrative actions are completed on the system, while others are completed on the management interface for the external scheduling application, like IBM Storage Copy Data Management or IBM Copy Services Manager.
IBM Copy Services Manager
The system supports IBM Copy Services Manager as an external scheduling application. IBM Copy Services Manager coordinates and automates Safeguarded Copy function across multiple systems. You can manage Safeguarded Copy function with IBM Copy Services Manager using the management GUI and command- line interface.
