Removing and replacing the top cover

To complete some service tasks, you might need to remove the top cover from a 5U expansion enclosure.

Before you begin

Important: You can remove the cover without powering off the expansion enclosure. However, to maintain operating temperature, replace the cover within 15 minutes of its removal. When the cover is removed, the reduction in airflow through the enclosure might cause the enclosure or its components to shut down to protect from overheating.

Procedure

  1. Use the slide rails to pull the enclosure out from the rack.
  2. Slide the release latch ( 1 ) in the direction that is shown in Figure 1.

  3. Slide the cover toward the front of the expansion enclosure ( 2 ), as shown in Figure 1.
  4. Carefully lift the cover up, as shown in Figure 2.

  5. Place the cover in a safe location.

Replace the cover

  1. Carefully lower the cover and ensure that it is aligned correctly with the back of the enclosure, as shown in Figure 3.

  2. Push the cover release lever to the side ( 2 ) as shown in Figure 4.
  3. Slide the cover towards the back of the enclosure ( 3 ) back until it stops, as shown in Figure 4.

  4. Verify that the cover correctly engages the cover release latch and all of the inset tabs on the expansion enclosure.
  5. Lock the cover into position by sliding the release lever  4 , as shown in Figure 5
