Asynchronous disaster recovery replication

Policy-based replication supports a two-site, asynchronous replication topology.

This topology represents how the systems are organized and the type of replication that occurs between each location. Like the remote-copy function, one system acts production system and is accessible to hosts and the other acts as a recovery system and is not accessible to hosts. The term production refers to the production location, and recovery refers to the recovery location.

The system configures asynchronous replication between the systems and I/O groups that are defined in a replication policy. Replication policies support replication between two sites. Replication policies simplify configuration and management of asynchronous replication by adding numerous improvements and optimizations.

Policy-based replication supports an RPO alert. The system continually monitors current recovery point of each volume group and alerts you if the current value exceeds the objective that is defined in the replication policy. The system also uses the RPO value to prioritize how volume groups operate if bandwidth between systems is constrained.
