Snapshots

A volume group snapshot is a consistent point-in-time copy of a volume group.

A volume group snapshot can be used to restore the parent volume group or a subset of the parent volumes of the snapshot, or to create clones of the snapshot. For details, see Restore or refresh from a snapshot.

A volume group snapshot can be safeguarded, which adds protection to the snapshot. For details, see Safeguarded snapshots.

Snapshots policies manage creation and retention of snapshots of volumes in a volume group at specific intervals. For details, see Snapshot policies.

Highly available snapshots can be enabled when using high availability. For details, see Highly available snapshots.

Managing snapshots

You can use the management GUI or the command-line interface (CLI) to manage snapshots, safeguarded snapshots, and the volume groups.

You can add or delete a snapshot by using the Volumes > Volume groups panel in the management GUI.

You can also use the addsnapshot command to add snapshots to a volume group and the rmsnapshot command to delete snapshots.
