NVMe over Fibre Channel host attachments
A host system can be attached to the storage controller using the NVM Express (NVMe) over Fibre Channel (FC) protocol.
FC-NVMe configuration guidelines
Consider NVMe over Fibre Channel target configuration guidelines when you plan and configure the hosts.
Include the following details in your plan:
- A FC-NVMe host can connect to a maximum of four ports on a node. To allow
failover, configure up to four additional ports on the partner node.
Zone up to four ports from a single host to detect up to four ports on a node. To allow failover and avoid outages, zone the same or additional host ports to detect up to four ports on the second node in the I/O group. The recommended configuration is to include only those ports in a zone that are part of the respective portset.
- Ensure that the configuration does not exceed the number of sessions per FC port as well as the number of hosts per system. For more information, see Configuration limits.
- A new FC-NVMe host can be mapped to a user-defined Fibre Channel portset only.
