Follow this procedure to power off a control enclosure and, if needed, its expansion
enclosures. For example, you might power off the control enclosure when site maintenance is
planned.
About this task
When you shut down a control enclosure, all volumes that depend on that control enclosure or any
of its expansion enclosures go offline.
If the system contains multiple control enclosures, the other control enclosures remain online.
If the control enclosure you are shutting down contains the configuration node, one of the online
node canisters becomes the configuration node.
Procedure
-
Stop all host I/O to volumes that depend on the control enclosure that is to be shut down. To
list the dependent volumes, in the management GUI, click Monitoring >
System. From the Enclosure Actions menu, select
Dependent Volumes.
-
Shut down the control enclosure by using the management GUI. Click
Monitoring > System. From the Enclosure
Actions menu, select Power Off Enclosure.
-
Disconnect the power cords.
-
If you are servicing the control enclosure only, disconnect the power cords from both power
supply units (PSUs) in the control enclosure.
Note: You do not need to power off the expansion enclosures.
-
If you are preparing for site maintenance, disconnect the power cords from both power supplies
in each expansion enclosure in the control enclosure's SAS chains.
Note: The 2U and 5U expansion enclosures do not have a power button. Each expansion enclosure has
two PSUs.
-
When you are ready to restore power to the control enclosure and any expansion enclosures,
follow the appropriate procedures for your system configuration.
