Converting a volume to a stretched volume

You can use the management GUI or the command-line interface to add copies to volumes to create a stretched volume.

About this task

The addvolumecopy command can be used to add a copy to a basic volume, which changes a basic volume into a stretched volume with copies on two separate sites. Before you add a copy to convert a basic volume to a stretched volume, the system must be configured as a stretched system topology. To change a basic volume to a stretched volume in the management GUI, select Volumes and right-click the basic volume and select Add Volume Copies. On the Add Volume Copy page, select the appropriate volume type and specify the pools at each site where the copies are located.

Procedure

To add a copy to basic volume to convert it to a stretched volume, enter the following command, where site2pool is the storage pool on the other site.
addvolumecopy -pool site2pool volume5
