720 Ethernet adapter that was previously present has not been detected.

Explanation

On FlashSystem 7200 and FlashSystem 9200, an Ethernet adapter that was previously present is not detected. The adapters form a part of the canister assembly.

On FlashSystem 5000, an Ethernet adapter that was previously present is not detected. The adapter might have been removed deliberately, it might not be installed correctly, or it might have failed.

On IBM® SAN Volume Controller, IBM Storage Virtualize for Public Cloud, and IBM Storage Virtualize, an Ethernet adapter that was previously present is not detected. The adapter might not be correctly installed or it might have failed.

Data:
  • On FlashSystem 5000, FlashSystem 7200, and FlashSystem 9200, a number that indicates the adapter location. The location indicates an adapter slot. See the node canister description for the definition of the adapter slot locations. If the location is 0, the adapter is integrated into the system board or directly connected to it, that is, not in a PCI express expansion slot.
  • On IBM SAN Volume Controller, IBM Storage Virtualize for Public Cloud, and IBM Storage Virtualize, a number that indicates the adapter location. The location indicates an adapter slot. See the node description for the definition of the adapter slot locations. If the location is 0, the adapter is integrated into the system board or directly connected to it, that is, not in a PCI express expansion slot.

User response

On FlashSystem 7200 and FlashSystem 9200, complete the following steps:
  1. If possible, use the management GUI to run the suggested actions for the associated service error code.
  2. Because the Ethernet adapters are integrated into the node canisters, replace the node canister by using the remove and replace procedures.
On FlashSystem 5000, complete the following steps:
  1. If possible, use the management GUI to run the suggested actions for the associated service error code.
  2. If the adapter location is 0, use the remove and replace procedures to replace the node canister.
On IBM SAN Volume Controller, complete the following steps:
  1. If possible, use the management GUI to run the suggested actions for the associated service error code.
  2. If the adapter location is 0, use the remove and replace procedures to replace the Ethernet edge board, if an Ethernet edge board is installed, or the system board.
  3. If the location is not 0, a number of possibilities exist.
    1. Use the remove and replace procedures to remove and open the node and check that the adapter is fully installed.
    2. If the previous steps did not locate and isolate the problem, use the remove and replace procedures to replace the adapter. If this procedure does not fix the problem, replace the system board.
On IBM Storage Virtualize for Public Cloud and IBM Storage Virtualize, complete the following steps:
  1. If possible, use the management GUI to run the suggested actions for the associated service error code.
  2. Contact your hardware manufacturer.
Possible Cause-FRUs or other cause:
  • On IBM SAN Volume Controller, Ethernet adapter
  • On FlashSystem 5000, FlashSystem 7200, and FlashSystem 9200, node canister
  • On IBM SAN Volume Controller, system board
Does not apply to IBM Storage Virtualize for Public Cloud and IBM Storage Virtualize.
