Migrating to Safeguarded snapshots
If you are currently using IBM Copy Services Manager as your external scheduling application, you can migrate to Safeguarded snapshots. Previous versions of Safeguarded Copy function with IBM Copy Services Manager used FlashCopy mappings to create backups by using an external Safeguarded backup policy. However, IBM Copy Services Manager support Safeguarded snapshots, which reduces the configuration and management complexity of previous versions.
You must remove the Safeguarded policy assigned to the volumes groups in IBM Storage Virtualize for migrating to Safeguard snapshots.
Before you can migrate to Safeguarded snapshots, complete the
following prerequisites:
- Update IBM Storage Virtualize to version 8.5.2 or later.
- Update IBM Copy Services Manager to version 6.3.4 or later.
Using management GUI
- Configure IBM Copy Services Manager system
- To configure IBM Copy Services Manager system, complete
these steps:
- Create an IBM Copy Services Manager snapshot session, and associate it to the volume group in the IBM Copy Services Manager system. For more information, see Creating a Storage Virtualize Snapshot session using a Volume Group.
- Set up scheduled task in the IBM Copy Services Manager system that runs Create Safeguarded Snapshot command on the session that is created in step 1. For more information, see Creating scheduled tasks.
- Validate the creation of Safeguarded snapshot in IBM Copy Services Manager. You can manage and validate Safeguarded snapshots with IBM Copy Services Manager by creating clone or thin-clone. For more information, see Snapshot for Storage Virtualize commands.
- Repeat these steps for all the Safeguarded backup volume groups as IBM Copy Services Manager sessions have one to one mapping with IBM Storage Virtualize volume groups.
- Remove Safeguarded policy in IBM Storage Virtualize
- To remove Safeguarded policy in IBM Storage Virtualize, complete these steps:
- In the management GUI, select Volume Groups.
- On the Volume Groups page, select a volume group and from the overflow menu, select the View Details.
- Select the Policies tab, and click Manage Safeguarded Backup Policy.
- On the Manage Safeguarded Policy page, select Remove policy from the volume group.
- Click Apply changes.
- Repeat these steps for all the Safeguarded backup volume groups.
- Verify that the existing Safeguarded backup policies are removed. On the Volumes Group page, select a volume group and select the Policies tab. The Safeguarded backup policy is not assigned message is displayed. Repeat this step for all the volume groups.
